The Enhanced Remote Mirroring is a redesign of the former Remote Volume Mirroring and now offers three different operating modes: Metro Mirroring Metro Mirroring is a synchronous mirroring mode. Any host write request is written to the primary local Storage Subsystem and then transferred to the secondary remote Storage Subsystem. The remote storage controller reports the result of the write request operation to the local storage controller which reports it to the host. This mode is called synchronous, because the host application does not get the write request result until the write request has been executed on both local and remote storage controllers.

Description These models are designed to operate at up to 4 Gbps Fibre Channel speeds for connectivity to 4 Gbps attached host systems and optionally attached 4 Gbps DS storage expansion units.
The DS has an internal physical storage capacity of up to 4. Physical storage capacity can be increased up to 84 TB by attachment of up to six DS storage expansion units. They are designed to deliver high performance with advanced function and high availability.
These models employ sixth-generation architecture that delivers 4 Gbps FC connectivity directly to host servers, SAN fabric, and disk drive expansion enclosures. The combination of System p5 and DS Express can help maximize your infrastructure investment.
Both models connect to host servers and SAN fabric via host ports and connect to DS storage expansion units via disk drive expansion ports. You can enable the ports by populating them with 4 Gbps small form-factor pluggable SFP transceivers. Four shortwave 4 Gbps SFP transceivers are included with the model 70 shipment group and six shortwave 4 Gbps SFP transceivers are included with model For the model 70, depending on your requirements, you can use the four supplied SFP transceivers to populate the four host ports two ports per controller , if the configuration does not require DS storage expansion units.
Alternatively, you can use the four SFP transceivers to populate two host ports one port per controller and two disk expansion ports one port per controller. If you need additional connectivity, you can order up to two shortwave 4 Gbps SFP transceiver features feature for connectivity to all host and drive ports.

Model 70 enables up to 16 E-DDMs. Model 70 contains 2 GB of cache memory 1 GB per controller , four 4 Gbps FC host ports two ports per controller , and four shortwave SFP transceivers included with the shipment group for connections to SAN fabric or directly to host servers. Model 72 contains 4 GB of cache memory 2 GB per controller , eight 4 Gbps FC host ports four ports per controller , and six shortwave SFP transceivers included with the shipment group for connections to SAN fabric or directly to host servers.
Four drive expansion ports two ports per controller for attachment of up to six DS storage expansion units with a maximum of up to E-DDMs up to 84 TB of physical storage capacity. Model 70 has selectable storage partitions of either 2, 4, 8, 16, or Model 72 has selectable storage partitions of either 8, 16, or Support for RAID 0, 1, 3, 5, and DS Storage Manager V9. It offers a common storage management platform for the DS series. The DS Storage Manager gives administrators a powerful, yet easy-to-use management interface. The flexibility of configuring the DS Storage Manager is designed to enable you to mix drive technologies when intermix is activated , manage RAID levels, segment sizes, volume group sizes, volume characteristics, and cache policies -- all within a single DS storage system.
When you activate the optional storage partitioning features, the DS Storage Manager can enable a single DS storage system to function as multiple logical storage systems to meet the needs of storage consolidation in heterogeneous environments.
Additionally, the DS Storage Manager enables management of advanced copy services features such as FlashCopy and VolumeCopy when separately activated.
